ABOUT THE TUTOR: Jonathan Sanford Saul
Educator, administrator and consultant, Jon earned his B.A. in History, with minors in
Education and Philosophy, from The City College of New York and his Master’s in Philosophy in
European Intellectual History from The City University of New York, with minors in British Intellectual
History and Modern European History. Throughout his professional career, Jon has been in numerous higher
educational settings, including the New York City Board of Education, Bank Street College of Education,
and LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York. For the last several years, Jon has been
teaching writing, reading, philosophy and ethics in the classroom and on-line.
Jon began tutoring while attending the Bronx High School of Science, in mathematics, biology and reading.
He was a volunteer tutor for ASPIRA, a community service organization in the Bronx.
He has taught SAT Preparation classes for in both Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Jon has been teaching Community College students since the early 1980's, including reading, writing, oral communication,
social studies, philosophy, ethics, history and technical writing. He has taught at Three Rivers Community College in Connecticut,
LaGuardia Community College in the City university of New York, Mercer County Community College in New Jersey and
Bucks County Community College, Montgomery County Community College and DeVry University, all in Pennsylvania.
He teaches on-line for Axia College of the University of Phoenix.
During his career, Jon has authored numerous successful grant proposals and has contributed to professional publications,
including LaGuardia Community College’s College Knowledge and Reading Strategies, for which he serves as
social science editor.
The textbook, The American English Express, and the website, CompactCollege, embody his educational pedagogy
for basic skills students.
Jon has volunteered for many non-profit groups, neighborhood organizations and local governments as a
community organizer, writer, editor, activist, tutor and as an information technology specialist.
